    US Philippines 20 centavos AKLAN Military Issue / Capiz Province WW2 Banknote
    Red print on coarse white paper. Well circulated. The notes were printed crudely and many issues are very hard to read.  Scarce issue.
    Notes were printed in sheets but a shortage of type caused variations of the borders as well as the text and numerals.
    Of the 6 denomination (5c,10c, 20c, 50c,
    1p & 2p) printed only 5 are presently known.
    All notes are uniface but on some of the back there appears a stamped signature.
    AKLAN MILITARY NOTES
    In 1941 the
    island
    of
    Panay
    was divided into 3 provinces: Antique, Capiz and
    Iloilo
    .
    When the Japanese occupied
    Panay
    , the provincial officials of Antique and Capiz remained in office as Japanese puppets.
    Maj.
    Pedro Yatar, commanding the 2nd Battalion, 64th Infantry Regiment, printed 100,000 pesos in low denomination notes to provide small change in the Aklan area of Capiz. The notes were distributed to Municipal Treasures who were required to keep on deposit an equivalent amount in large denomination
    Iloilo
    denomination emergency notes. The notes were printed in sheets and the shortage of type resulted in variations in border ornaments and text in each denomination . Of the six denominations issued, not all are presently known to collectors.
    The Aklan area of Capiz later became a separate province in 1956

    The grade I gave is just my opinion and may differ from others.
