Description
We are offering four late 19th c. Dutch baby rattles (two with celluloid teething rings). From the left is a facetted bell with a loop for a ribbon It is 2 3/8" long and weighs 22.1 grams. It has two hallmarks: one I make to be the .833 Dutch purity mark and the other is probably the maker's mark (A.K.). The second is a rattle 2,25" x 1,75" x .75" (thick) with a celluloid teething ring. This piece has a gross weight of 30.9 grams. The rattle features a repousse scene (on both sides) of a child holding an umbrella over the head of a of sleeper in bed. It has a maker's mark and the purity mark 830 S (this piece might actually be Danish) The third item is a plain silver bell (clapper is missing) with an attached teething ring. It has tiny hallmarks that also indicate it is .833 silver. It is 1 7/8" tall x 1.5" wide x 7/8" thick. It has a gross weight of 30.9 grams. The final rattle is shaped much like a pocket watch with a hinged ring for a ribbon. It also has a tiny .833 purity mark and is engraved with the name Frederic. It is 1.78" in diameter x .75" thick. It weighs 24grams. All the pieces together have a total weight of 100.7 grams.Stock number SA2A-508(4)
