    In southern Samar, Ballangiga is historically prominent as it was there in 1899 during the Philippine Insurrection that and entire company of American soldiers was surprised one morning whit at mess: only one managed to escape.
    Two issues of emergency notes are known from this municipality.
    The range of denominations as listed agrees with
    officially
    reported values.
    First Issue-January 11th 1943
    Face: Mimeo print, two red stamped serial numbers.
    Signatures of Mun. Treasurer, Command. Officer and Mun Mayor. Mayor's signature printed or handwritten, other two always handwritten.
    Large denomination stamping in black or purple on 5 and 10 Centavos, purple on the rest.
    Date given twice as s/1943
    Justice of the Peace embossed seal at sides or near center.
    All notes carry the specific date of January 11, 1943.
    Boarder device is the respective denomination of each note.
    Notice the USAFFEE designation (United States Armed Forces in the Far East)
    Heading CIRCULATING NOTES near center.
    Back: Apparently intended for all notes was the hand signature of the Mayor as on face side: Otherwise the back is blank.
