    Description

This listing is for a very unique solid silver liquor serving plate. The manufacturer KiM is based out of Warsaw, Poland. Each piece of the set ( 1 plate and 4 serving cups) have the same hallmarks indicating the manufacturer and the alloy of .800 fine silver (80% silver). In total, set weighs 12.35 Troy ounces.
What makes this piece so interesting is the inscription in the center of the plate. Form what I can translate, this was a gift to a retiring school teacher who was very respected in his field. The inscription is dated 1930 which is most likely the date it was both manufactured and gifted. Beyond this, it becomes even more fascinating to think about how this personal and valuable belonging may have been separated from its owner. In 1939, a very well known regime was coming to power and raided many polish homes of their valuables simply because their owner’s religion. This solid silver set could have very well been one of those items wrongfully taken away from their owner. This is of course, all speculation.
