    Description

    Offered is an original manuscript document from a legal case brought in Jones County, Georgia in 1812. 7 1/2' x 12". The case for which this summons was issued was brought by Georgia Governor David B. Mitchell against James Taylor, Jr. and Harry D. Stone on the 13th of July, 1812. Mitchell is identified in the first line of the petition as "Governor and Commander in chief of the army and navy of this State and of the militia thereof...". The case stems from a debt of 0 incurred in 1806 for which the men were apparently in default. The document is recorded on July 13th, 1812 by the Clerk of the court; further notes on the reverse state that a copy of the summons was left at the home of H.D. Stone on July 18th; beneath that is a line "We found for the plaintiff thirty five dollars against Harry D.
